Nigeria is stepping firmly into the global digital spotlight with the successful hosting of the inaugural GITEX Nigeria 2025, a convergence of government leaders, global technology enterprises, startups, and investors. From September 1–4 across Abuja and Lagos, the event positioned Nigeria as a pivotal hub in Africa’s drive towards a US$1 trillion digital economy by 2030.
Building Africa’s Digital Sovereignty
Held under the patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the event was supported by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy in collaboration with NITDA, endorsed by the Lagos State Government, and organised by KAOUN International, the global organiser of GITEX events.
Opening in Abuja, the Government Leadership & AI Summit set the tone with a focus on how Nigeria can evolve from being a consumer of AI technologies to a net producer of solutions and talent.
"Lagos is not just a city for today; it is Africa’s innovation nerve centre and a launchpad for Africa’s tomorrow! As we build our city into the preferred destination for innovation, GITEX Nigeria’s shared ambition places Lagos at the heart of Africa’s digital future."
Hon. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor Tweet
Lagos: The Epicenter of Innovation
The programme then transitioned to Lagos, where the GITEX Nigeria Tech Expo & Future Economy Conference at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre and the Startup Festival at Landmark Centre attracted thousands of founders, investors, and decision-makers.
The Startup Festival hosted West Africa’s largest investor meetings, including the Supernova Challenge pitch competition, giving startups an international platform and direct access to venture funding.
SignTech at GITEX: Leading Nigeria’s Paperless Revolution
Among the standout innovators at GITEX Nigeria 2025 was SignTech Forms, a UK-headquartered company with strong African roots. SignTech showcased its free electronic signature platform, a solution designed to eliminate reliance on paper-based workflows that slow down businesses across Nigeria.
By offering a secure, compliant, and free-to-use eSignature tool, SignTech empowers Nigerian startups, SMEs, and enterprises to:
Sign documents online quickly and securely.
Replace traditional wet signatures with trusted digital approvals.
Reduce operational costs and align with sustainability goals.
Transition into fully paperless business operations.
At GITEX, SignTech’s solutions resonated strongly with organizations seeking affordable compliance alternatives to costly global platforms. Its approach underscored a broader message: Africa’s digital transformation will be driven by solutions built for local realities.
Global Giants, Local Impact
Beyond startups, global enterprises also deepened their Nigerian footprint. IBM operated by MIBB, AWS, Cisco, IFC, and Kaspersky were among the sponsors, reaffirming Nigeria’s strategic importance as a regional technology hub.
“GITEX Nigeria is more than an event; it is the cornerstone for Africa’s digital renaissance and a catalyst for developing world-class AI infrastructure,”
– Mr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General, NITDA.
A Catalyst for Africa’s Digital Future
Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem, home to 23 of the country’s 28 fastest-growing companies, continues to attract both international and domestic investors. With programmes like the UNDP timbuktoo initiative announced during GITEX, African startups are being positioned to solve macro challenges on a global scale.
For SignTech and other innovators, GITEX Nigeria 2025 was not just a showcase — it was a launchpad. It demonstrated that local solutions tackling everyday business bottlenecks, like document signing, can stand side by side with global technology giants in shaping Africa’s future.
The Road Ahead
As the curtains close on GITEX Nigeria 2025, one fact is clear: Nigeria has not only joined but is actively shaping the global digital conversation. By combining government policy, international collaboration, and homegrown innovation, the nation is charting a bold course toward digital sovereignty.
And for companies like SignTech Forms, the event validated that Nigeria’s trillion-dollar digital future will be anchored in affordable, sustainable, and locally relevant solutions.
