How to be a Climate Change Superhero

Wouldn’t it be cool to be able to fly or shoot lasers from your eyes or have super strength? I know some people who really want to be superheroes and they can! While we may not be able to move things with our minds, we can still save the earth from a supervillain: Climate Change.

Everyone Can Be a Climate Change Superhero!

A major contributor to climate change is garbage. Landfills are full of methane which is a powerful greenhouse gas that traps heat in the atmosphere. It is 23 times more effective than carbon dioxide in trapping heat! 

At the rate we are polluting the earth with methane and other greenhouse gases, in a couple decades the earth may not be suitable for people to live in. Here are a couple of ways that you and I can make the world a cleaner place.

The 3 R’s

Reduce, reuse, recycle.  I’m sure most people have heard about the 3 r’s.  These are three techniques I learned in preschool; they are simple tasks everyone performs on a daily basis. You can reuse shopping bags, put bottles/cans in a recycle bin or reduce the amount of paper you use. And there are some paperless solutions that totally eradicate the use of paper allto. 

Using ebooks/paperless forms

I love love love books; books are amazing things that can take you to magical places and on exciting adventures. Around my room there are multitudinous heaps of books, they take up more space than I would like. With today’s technology people don’t need to have lots of books and papers lying around, they can get thousands of books and files on their electronic devices. Use public transport or walk/bike instead of a car

If it isn’t absolutely necessary for you to use a car, then don’t. Pollution from vehicles damage the ozone layer; minimizing the amount of vehicles that are used will help preserve it. This will also minimize the amount of pollution that is going into the air and water. 

As inhabitants of this planet it is our duty to sustain it and make it suitable for other generations as well as other species. While you may not be fighting crime, doing simple things like recycling, using a paperless form builder or biking, can make you a superhero. Together, we can save the earth!
