I have previously discussed on this paperless blog about the smog concerns China has faced. In the hopes of seeking for a smog free future, different inventions and regulations have been put into place to deal with this pollution problem. Daan Roosegarde invented a smog free bicycle. It’s supposed to be similar to the Smog Free Tower also produced by him.

The Smog Free Tower works with the proven ENS technology of positive ionization to remove large fractions of particulate matter from the air in its immediate surroundings. In simple parlance, it cleans the air around it removing some potentially harmful pollutants.

What About a Bike hat Rids The Air of Pullution?

The innovative bicycle inhales polluted air, cleans it, and releases clean air around the cyclist. The bicycles will work in similar ways as the Smog Free Tower and provide a healthy and energy friendly solution for urbanites, combatting both traffic congestion and pollution issues in the city.

Some People are Skeptical of a Smog-Removing Bike

Although it’s innovative, a lot of people are skeptical of this inventions. Some critics say that with this invention, cleaned air would instantly mix with all of the other polluted air. Others complain that the focus should be on spending more time fixing the source of the pollution problem in China, “that putting on masks and building giant air filters is more an admission of failure rather than a step forward”.

Whether or not you feel that the smog free bicycle is a good idea is a subjective issue. However, I do feel that the fact that striving bring the bicycle culture back to China is a step in the right direction towards a smog free future for the country.

It would be interesting to see the results of the smog free bicycle and whether it would actually be a success in the streets of China. Or if it’s just going to be one of those things that make the headlines one week, but no one remembers in the next.

In conclusion, we ALL should be involved and interested in what’s happening in our environment so as to care for it. Be it by designing a smog free bicycle, or by boycotting paper forms in your office to paperless business forms, there’s always something you can do.
